SDCC 2018 – The Hangover

[0:30] But to be fair we weren’t there as long and sb meeting is the people directly on his yorkie of table you now.

[0:37] Yeah but we did check a lot of hands and talk to a lot of people there.

[0:40] A lot of hands and kiss a lot of babies that.

Kenric:
[0:42] Man it was yeah that was a lot of work.

John:
[0:47] It was it was it was busy non-stop for us.

Kenric:
[0:50] About work work work.

John:
[0:51] At work right you got to work work work what about San Jose.

Kenric:
[0:54] What you know about work work work.

John:
[0:56] Nothing apparently.

Kenric:
[0:59] Pretty crazy it was a good time now have a eight yoni found out today i was like of the home and to shower and we’ll to where can i offset really miss my hotel for.

John:
[1:11] Did the room is Nigel’s cozy of come.

Kenric:
[1:13] It was nice man and it was like it wasn’t cuz you sometimes you get hotel rooms and they’re so like you can’t have the air conditioner on as low as you want.

John:

Kenric:
[1:25] It always goes back up to whatever their default is and they didn’t do that.

John:
[1:30] But,
is it of will ma the kitchen area of freezer and our bedroom in the sauna he wouldn’t didn’t go to our beds.

Kenric:
[1:50] Yeah it’s just worthless it’s like you at least give you a fan so you can get that stuff circulated yeah.

John:
[1:56] Right but i’m in is alright i’ll be no did cindy go its this is our second time going to the show your second time going out how to how your feeling about the show after second time.

Kenric:
[2:06] What I love the show I mean I love going because San Diego special one it was our first con that we did together is the first con that we did as a show I mean we’ve met at Emerald City a couple years before that.

John:
[2:21] It’s different when doesn’t like a house go on.

Kenric:
[2:22] But that was just like I was already there you are already there we didn’t even know each other we’re going to be there until,
Comic-Con I think Kaylee saw on Facebook that kind of thing.

John:
[2:33] Yeah right in the middle of the table and.

Kenric:
[2:35] Yeah it was like whatever we just stand in line together but that was like but so San Diego has a little bit of a special place because it was the first thing that we’ve done it was like the first big event that we’ve done.

John:
[2:46] In our first month.

Kenric:
[2:47] In her first month and we started making like a lot of friends we have,
more friends at San Diego then we do at Emerald City.

John:
[2:55] Has he been down there leave and we we made friends and is all the way but like we are friends that are mostly that also fences and do to you know cuz of california and yeah.

Kenric:
[3:03] Yeah not dentist in bed and stuff and.

John:
[3:08] Yeah yeah but it’s cool cuz you made me when your friends this year we had new experiences this year I I feel like that you was because we were better organized and ready for us last year we didn’t know what we’re doing we had no clue or doing.

Kenric:
[3:20] Yeah yeah it was different I mean I’m curious how next year’s going to go we never know if we’re going to get sponsored Again by Mill Geek Comics shout out to rest right and.

John:
[3:30] Give me the two year so far.

Kenric:
[3:31] Yeah yeah and Hammond yep him and Comic-Con 101 or really killing it on their part,
if you haven’t gone and listen to comic tommorow one your missing out you gotta get out there check about sunday you tube stuff it’s,
that’s crazy they got some amazing stories and the other just a lot of fun in there both very knowledgeable some planets that’s fun to listen to those guys but,
there’s a good chance that they’ll be going down next year so but with all the people that with the friends that we’ve made I don’t think that’s an issue for us.

John:
[4:01] Well that yeah there and we’re going to be replying for press passes this year so hopefully we get the press pass this year cuz I think you have enough enough credit down actually weren’t getting one,
yeah we covered the show two years in a row on an honor on our own dime and I say that mean you’ve gotten everything is for that have a FastPass you were being sponsored and having other things to pay for it and
I think you’ll be down there that twice now the third time we’ve done this twice. How about you know you help us out the press pass then you know that,
I mean is it just makes it easier to have the press pass cuz we don’t go to shop we don’t go for the celebrity autographs we go for the camaraderie in the people in the interviews in the end,
people stuff doesn’t.

[4:36] Yeah yeah it was cool man it was it was just a unique experience and it’s just it’s it’s become something that us the summertime it’s time to go to sdcc.

John:

I feel like every day we should put down a towel in face towards San Diego.

[5:04] So looking back on this year what was.

Kenric:
[5:10] Ashley was going to dinner with stephen.

John:
[5:12] Yeah that was that was that was pretty awesome I was.

Kenric:
[5:14] Set an amazing time you know we just have fun talking and then the food was spectacular.

John:
[5:21] If it was so good I want that food again.

Kenric:
[5:22] I felt bad for Kaylee cuz she ordered that spaghetti and wasn’t happy with it.

John:
[5:27] Yeah yeah.

Kenric:
[5:28] To get to know the part with things that she was had too much expectations both hot and it’s.

John:
[5:34] What she really wanted that filet mignon steak and she got talked into the spaghetti and it’s didn’t live up to what she wanted to know if that’s what it was.

Kenric:
[5:42] It should want that filet mignon because we got that’s all and it was.

John:
[5:47] So good man now but it doesn’t but my answer question i almost said except the dinner stephen it’s us with sticks and it has saved at.

Kenric:
[5:54] Oh yeah yeah lucius it which is loose is fun i mean i don’t know you just.

John:

[6:02] Yeah and it was no pressure to do anything.

John:

[6:06] We’re just chilling and that was cool yeah just dinner with a friend it was nice.

[6:11] Afforded doing it again at Emerald City next year.

[6:14] Yeah yeah yeah exactly I don’t know what it what was your favorite part.

John:
[6:20] Well I mean my favorite part was the it was the dinner stuff and if it was just amazing,
ima get a set just talking about the business and about thomas lee orders reform at a mostly when we had dinner with me i spent time talking about the industry and hearing his side because he’s been on been in for so long and
hearing about the comics in the back of the you know the little is that our stories we could hear from him which is it’s just it’s a lot of fun it’s it’s really cool.

Kenric:
[6:43] Yeah next time we got it set up dinner now it’s definite but with Dennis and with Jeff Schutte.

John:
[6:49] Yeah yeah man i think wicker park honestly was just,
meeting our friends on there again hanging out and I mean I’d love to interviews I love meeting new people I love walking around seeing all the stuff you don’t go into the Sky by if it was cool
but they just be able to see all these friends we had to receive once or twice a year at the Kansas primary partly shows.

Kenric:
[7:10] Yeah yeah just like I I was content going it just hanging out at just YouTube.

John:
[7:15] Her credits so.

Kenric:
[7:17] Not mean just sit around.

John:
[7:18] Likes to go all day everyday you know how hard it is here at 6 Saturday I’ll know I was only there for like 3 or 4 hours on Saturday so I don’t want to be here comes and tired.

Kenric:
[7:30] Yeah I was there longer than you were on Saturday.

John:
[7:32] Yeah and it said that you didn’t go cuz that’s your plane stuff and it was fine.

Kenric:
[7:35] Yeah but it was fine I didn’t feel like I missed anything.

John:
[7:38] Now you really did I mean we got some interviews on Sunday cuz we just had him set up yet we had a pretty set up but it wasn’t a big deal you know.

Kenric:
[7:43] Oh yeah I didn’t feel like I’m going to have to go that’s why I should go do this for trying to figure it out for me but I’ll just like I don’t even care about figure it out man I’m I’m I’m content you know me we had for big days,
and we did things every single day we got through things every single day and,
I was content I was like I didn’t need to go that last day cuz that last days always kind of a let-down anyways.

John:
[8:09] Once it’s it’s a shorter and there’s a lot of people and I don’t know.

Kenric:
[8:13] Yeah they was good I mean I don’t know airport I got there way early and you know what I do I sat and watched movies and I watched you too and I took a nap and you know it.

John:

[8:32] I dude I was do I was laughing I can I was watching legit and I don’t know if you’ve ever seen legit with Jim Jefferies,
and oh my God I wish I was giggling and,
lady across was just giving me the stink-eye man she was not liking that I was having a good time at the,
yeah it was weird.

[8:57] That was one of the kids have fun who cares when I don’t know.

[8:59] Yeah yeah I don’t think it was weird it was kind of funny that goes like whatever I just laughed even louder.

[9:07] Wanted to be fair can make you have a pretty loud laugh when you’re laughing.

oh what i thicken if i took an interview about a store whatever what do you think we should do different next year.

[9:30] Well if we could afford a hotel right downtown.

John:

John:
[9:40] Anybody out there and want to sponsor lectures republican hotel downtown we will give you any kind source of you want a.

Kenric:
[9:48] I don’t know what will we do different because actually the hotel for me was it bad.

[9:54] That wasn’t bad.

Kenric:
[9:55] And I didn’t really mind taking an Uber there a lift there not a uber a Lyft.

John:
[9:59] Double the price on the.

Kenric:
[10:01] Which is crazy.

John:
[10:02] I do wish I wish you were walking to some stepping really nice flight to do stuff with.

Kenric:
[10:08] Yeah but the price was just so prohibitive yeah.

John:
[10:10] Prices are outrageous right now but I think the only thing that I would want to do more of next year’s do more panels I want to schedule out and go to more pain.

Kenric:
[10:19] This year we still didn’t do it was that kind of pissed about that and I think it was just I think next year we need to actually look at the schedule more.

John:
[10:29] Yeah yeah,
we just schedule at the panels and interviews around the panels and see we can go from there because I feel like we missed out on a bunch of cool stuff we could talk you know talked about,
because you know I like the little the couple parent that’s all things we did go to at the retailer event this guy but then we got a bunch and do that it was really cool and I thought it would be gone to a couple sweatpants we could have gotten a bunch of great stuff to talk about you know.

Kenric:
[10:52] Yeah my favorite thing would be if we were able to is to get a booth our own booth and then schedule interviews for them to come to us.

John:
[11:02] Someday you’ll have a.

Kenric:
[11:03] I feel like people would take it a little bit more seriously. They didn’t not that,
cuz we concentrate so much on more independence,
because that’s that’s kind of like the people that we always like talking to you because they’re kind of putting their heart and soul into it there I mean them getting a booth at sdcc it’s a huge deal because it cost so much money to do.

John:
[11:29] It’s not cheap man.

Kenric:
[11:30] Yeah it’s not cheap and so is always kind of like okay cool if we have one maybe we can get some of the bigger names there to say hey we got to prove what you come over sit down you don’t mean have some water,
for free what.

John:
[11:47] You can tell me.

Kenric:
[11:49] And in.

John:
[11:50] Get tell my kids are going to bed and they’re not doing too well now i feel that i’m.

Kenric:
[11:54] That’s hilarious but you know what I mean in and just have them there and be able to do some interviews maybe get some more in-depth interviews because when we do at the con they’re great but it’s so quick.

John:
[12:07] I know I would love to go do you like personally my dream experience to go into
any and every Khan is to have a table at a booth to do shorter interviews to release like the day episodes the day I do enjoy those ideas with those give people like that I sense of like what’s going on at the clown that Dan kind of quick stuff but there’s also like
in-between that if you have a booth we could sit down for an interview and recorder assembly for an hour and do a full episode at the show which would be amazing as well that’s that would be my dream right there.

Kenric:
[12:34] Yep and ability to you know go to our booze and have a place to have a Comedown get some things going on and then go from there and plus being able to sell them,
all that kind of stuff yeah we got t-shirts coming soon that’s going to blow people away.

John:
[12:51] Yeah we do dude I was actually thinking last night that I need to schedule and send to your cuz they’re pretty cool looking design them in my head at least.

Kenric:
[12:59] Yeah well we we know the one that we want to do and we have a policy that we wanna have made so,
does a lot of stuff coming down the pike in it just you know,
having that kind of stuff available at The Conjuring be huge,
you know but sdcc man always going to have a special place sdcc I always put that Thursday in there.

John:
[13:20] San Diego City Comic Con is 3C so I want to eat at ECCC it for Emerald City Comic Con.

Kenric:
[13:26] Write in NYC CC.

John:
[13:28] Yeah New York City Comic Con.

Kenric:
[13:30] We’re hoping that you can get to.

John:
[13:31] There’s a chance that I’ve been making out to New York here in October and staying.

Kenric:

John:
[13:37] Friends the show it is it’s close I’ve got everything priced out for it and I spent my brakes today at work like pricing everything out like 3 and how I’m going to work,
and there’s a there’s a,
fifty percent chance that i may actually work out and we better fly out there for a couple of days and at ten the new york comic con and.

Kenric:
[13:55] Threatened and you won’t have to pay for hotel right.

John:
[13:58] No cuz you are arguably Eli is moving to New York and is he said he’s graciously said we could stay with them.

Kenric:
[14:03] Yeah Eli’s awesome he’s the man.

John:

[14:06] Will be out here in for the holidays.

[14:09] Great cuz we talked we talked about going there recording you we would record with him if your going if you if you could go with us to record with them he’s like yeah we could course what country was record my should be court next to show record your your new show to all the shows of them.

[14:23] I can go out there then is it it’s literally impossible for me to out there then.

[14:28] Yeah i know you got too much work stuff going on which is fine with me.

[14:31] So many projects starting so many projects starting it’s crazy.

[14:36] After me to say it’s just taking a day or two of work out i don’t have the project karma’s you have which is great which is fine.

tell us stuff going on in in in san diego i feel like you was the beginning of everything for us even now we started and wished we we’re doing these episodes then we got,
the ability to go to San Diego last year but I felt like that was like a big catalyst.

[15:00] Was when it was severed seven was referred for the first time of an episode and it’s like you into the big one first so knocked out you now which is nice.

[15:33] Yeah that was great had beers and we’d sit around and recorder for 2 hours and I think Angels owner was a great man because he killed to Seattle and we had drinks and then we reported freaking basically I mean it’s going to be in two episodes cuz it was over 2 hours.

[15:47] Yeah he’s such a great guy that’s going to be like a normal thing we’re going to try to get Andrew on like once a month and we’re going to talk about stuff that and I hope it’s okay we can talk about this right.

[17:06] Yeah it was amazing but you know and plus he’s watch Doctor Who from the beginning so he knows everything and everything about Doctor Who which is just nuts and.

3 hours * 2 hours of recording and then.

[17:33] Before you get going we didn’t say Andrew Sumner is the executive I press vice president of Titan entertainment which does Titan Comics that does like Doctor Who comic books and Tank Girl and how much other license books.

John:
[17:48] Yep yep which is awesome and so we had to Seattle in Seattle that.
the scripts saloon dinner cory hung out for while your before and after words,
and then before we left and drove home and then I literally drove home from Seattle to my house picked up my wife she got dressed turn around go back to Seattle for a concert,
and I had an extra ticket so I offered it to Andrew to see if you wanted to go with us things like that normally I would but no he had a chest cold still too he say this hotel if I end up not
yeah and apply with actually had to get used to the concert which kinda sucked but.

Kenric:

[18:27] Cuz I was originally somebody was supposed to go named Cameron who decided to bail at the last minute,
Cameron being my brother-in-law.

[18:34] Yeah well Cameron is doing a lot of construction so he’s he might have been tired.

I think by next year I want to like you meant like we talked about the pain out the one I want to hit up specific panels that we want to talk about like you know I’m really upset not upset I’m really sad that last year we missed the Walt Simonson panel right.

ever I meant I loved it on the floor stuff we doing the interviews YouTube I want to add to it by adding your sub panel here this the penomet is always down at the panel,
I would also like to add two more interviews and kind of like,
I love doing the artist Nevada interviews we do we do some vendors here and there but I think it might be kind of cool to add some like shorter interviews with with attendees right to try to get there at their view of it a couple here that’s a couple of there one today or some like that.

was is asshole security guard who walked or tomb was like you can see here that you have to move music okay let’s,
let me get my stuff pick up more moved super polite you like you have to move you cannot be here and it just stood there,
watch them until they left and they’re like seriously going to watch it when you can’t be here so you can see us packing up and moving what the what are you doing like it’s going to take us some time we’re changing our daughter and feeding our son a bottle,
he was a huge dick about the average there are up to what I would like to know what your name is Domingo talk I’m going to go upstairs and talk to people about this is this is on her to give you my name,
and he’s like I don’t have to give you a name just like you kind of do.

what could you because we’re going with a vendor this year that was don’t let you in or out early for shit was having ex ex was in back of a kid but it’s like interest in their top is on the move conversation this and just shove you out the door,
at at that’s annoying and most of the security people are the people who are that the volunteers are wonderful they do a great job there,

[26:18] I feel like what are things that that surrounding hotels could do better is hotels in like a 20 mile radius should be doing shuttle services,
that would and then like almost all the hotel to be able to have people available.

majority people were hotels are there for Comic-Con you know.

Kenric:
[26:42] We have people at our hotel that river that most you or her to were not there for comic con but a lot of war.

John:
[26:48] We were further out but yeah but we were closer to our hotel to Comic-Con dinner you know a free dinner for Comic-Con in celebration of it so it’s cool.

[27:01] I just kinda feel like there should be more ride shares during that time like public,
like like do different types of rides like make it very well clear for outside people know,
bus goes to these locations check your you know check your hotel what bus can you take that kind of stuff but they don’t do anything like that in a part of it is,
open the local economy when they like allow for number and left to do a bunch of stuff i think but.

[27:30] We have a lot of those drivers who have come down or come into San Diego for Comic-Con.

Kenric:

[27:38] Yeah I left other 3 hours away I just cannot promise to get money and like I mean I’m sure it is good money driving constantly but next year,
what are things I try to do this year but it just didn’t work out because of,
