Burning Cat! May 16 – 17, 2020 in Portland!
Look, I love me a good card game. I was one of the backers for Exploding Kittens when it first came out, you know just like the other millions of people who backed that game. I’m not special. You’re not special, stop acting like you are. But you know what IS special? This sweet new convention from the creators of Exploding Kittens and The Oatmeal, Burning Cat. I got the email from them a few days ago, but as with every day I’m behind on my emails and didn’t’ see it right away. Oh wait, looking at it again it was yesterday I got the email. I’m not as far behind as I thought I was.
At first look I had no idea what this was and the below What? section doesn’t really tell you. I mean it’s funny, but it’s not informative to the true nature of this convention.
If you check out their about page you find out what this is. It’s a gaming convention with more focus on games and fun rather than shopping. That’s literally one of my biggest problems with conventions, it’s essentially a curated shopping mall. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting new stuff at a show, but I feel like sometimes that’s ALL it is.
Are we gonna go?
Honestly I don’t know. I would like to. If it lines up on a weekend I’m not traveling and I get tickets I will be there. It looks like a ton of fun, they even have a family kids day on Sunday with family friendly games as the focus and cheaper kids tickets. I’d love to travel down that way and see what this is all about. And hell, a giant burning cat sounds like a good time.
Here is some info I stole directly from their website for you, which is burningcat.com. Go take a look and buy tickets if you think it looks cool.
What?
Burning Cat is a convention from the creators of Exploding Kittens. At this event things will happen. You will play games. You will learn things. People will talk. A large man will be dressed as a cat. You do not have to talk to this man. A cat might explode. We suggest you avoid this cat.
Why?
- We wanted to fix the things that were wrong with traditional conventions.
- We wanted to create an event that was actually fun.
- We wanted to build a giant cat that explodes.
