Vader Immortal Episode 1-3 Review

Vader Immortal has been a three-part VR series released on the Oculus systems. The first part released in May 2019, the second released in September 2019, and the final part released in November 2019. The series revolves around the lore of Mustafar and heavily involves Darth Vader. Graphically, the game is intense, with you coming face to face with the dark lord himself. Besides the story, there is little the series has to offer in replay-ability with no collectibles or anything else.

The Lore is very interesting that has been introduced and add layers to the planet of Mustafar. It introduces a new species of alien, a few new characters, a new saber, and a new annoying droid.

The first part begins with you, a smuggler, and your droid, ZOE3, escaping an attack from other smugglers. In a last ditch effort you jump to hyperspace to get away, which you successfully do. Going back to check the damage dealt to your ship, you’re pulled from hyperspace above the planet of Mustafar. A Star Destroyer begins to fly above you as you are detained and escorted to the planet below.

The two of you become confused to why the empire is on a mining planet. As you land in the hanger of an Imperial castle, stormtroopers knock you out and take you to the prisoner cells. When you come to, Admiral Karius greets you and tells you not to make Vader mad. Shortly after Vader enters and tosses a cube at you and demands that you open it. When you successfully do, Vader is pleased and walks away with the Admiral.

Exploring the Castle

A prisoner yells at you and reveals that he can help you and ZOE3 escape. As they run through the corridors of Vader’s castle, they hear Vader being told by a figure to a device called the Eon Engine. With him he is told that he can have incredible power and could possibly raise the dead. They then see that Vader has an echo of Padme’s soul preserved in a glass structure, although he cannot communicate with her.

After this, the Smuggler and ZOE3 escape to another room where the Smuggler finds a lightsaber. After a brief lesson from a training droid, they sneak out and into more maintenance chutes.

Into the Mines

From there, a Mustafarian Priestess explains how Mustafar was once a lush green world, where Mustafarians lived peacefully with Lady Corvak and her Husband. However, when an unknown enemy attacks the planet, Corvak is mortally wounded. In response, Lady Corvak steals the Bright Star and uses it to power the Eon Engine. This resulted in her husband being trapped between worlds and Mustafar’s life energy drained out making her the planet she is now.

She and a guard quickly leave after saying that the Smuggler must retrieve the Shining Star and that Vader cannot be allowed to have it. After this, a squad of stormtroopers enter and Vader quickly tosses the ZOE3 aside. Vader then gives the Smuggler the box and the Smuggler uses it to activate an elevator. Shortly after descending, however, several ancient droids activate and begin attacking. Once the droids are defeated, Vader confiscates the Smuggler’s lightsaber and says they must continue and will not be denied.

In the last episode, we were back in Vader’s clutches after a lightsaber battle against a wave of ancient guardian droids. Impressed with our abilities so far, Vader has now promised to guide us on the paths of the Force.

Vader then guides us through the ancient temple located under his castle. It is here that we learn that our protagonist is a descendant of a powerful Force user Lady Corvak. This is where we learn the history of Mustafar. Lady Corvak created the Bright Star, which was capable of raising the dead in an attempt to resurrect her deceased lover. Naturally, Vader wants to harness this power on his own, to resurrect Padme.

After learning the basics behind wielding the Force, we soon find ourselves face-to-face with a Rancor. After the floor beneath the hero crumbles, exploring a vast network of catacombs solo. Following some exploration and several encounters with the Rancor, we reunite with our party. We discover the tomb of Lady Corvak’s husband, who is the shadowy figure from the first episode. He explains that he’s trapped between life and death. He grants you his Lightsword and the ability to control his army. As you and your group get back to the Bright Star, Vader steals it and throws you into a pit.

ZOE3 works to start a boat while Corvak’s husband instructs you on command of his army. You return to Vader’s castle and lead an assault with Corvak’s army. During the assault, you come face to face with Admiral Karius. He attacks you in a TIE Fighter, which you shoot down. You arrive at Vader’s chamber where he is harnessing the power of the Bright Star with the Eon Engine. You face Vader and lose until the spirit of Padme calls Vader with that phrase from Episode III about it’s not too late. The ghost then disappears and Vader tries to kill you with rage.

You destroy the Eon Engine and the Bright Star. Wraith Husband thanks him for saving him and says that Mustafar will now slowly go back to being a green planet, then disappear. Your brave droid returns with your ship and they both leave the planet. The player uses a totem you have in the castle to reveal a map of the Unknown Regions that shows a planet of interest (no name). The series ends with you jumping into hyperspace to go see that planet.
