The Rise of Kylo Ren #1 Review

Released as a supporting story to the Rise of Skywalker, The Rise of Kylo Ren released 2 days before the release of the film. The Rise of Kylo Ren is a mini-series released from Marvel, showing how Ben Skywalker fell to the dark side. Not only does this shed light on Kylo/Ben, it also reveals some of the secrets of the Knights of Ren.

The Cult of Ren

The first issue to the Kylo Ren story starts with two brothers being tested by a cloaked figure named Ren. Following almost immediately is the aftermath scene saw in The Last Jedi. Kylo Ren has survived the attack of Luke and we see what exactly happened to Luke’s temple. Struck with grief and confusion, three Jedi returning from a mission engage Ben before he can flee in his ship. Ben flees to an unknown planet to meet with a menace in the shadows.

The story is very intriguing in its way of trying to bridge the plot-hole that are the Knights of Ren. This issue fills the void and answers a lot of questions that were asked from The Last Jedi. Especially focusing around the events of Luke looking at his fallen temple.

Verdict

This comic is something I wish we would have gotten almost immediately after The Force Awakens, but better late than never. It gives just enough of a taste to want readers coming back for more, and this is most certainly a must read for Star Wars fans!
