‘SUPERMAN’ Reboot Happening at WB!
This report is coming from deadline. They have discovered that author Ta-Nehisi Coates (Wrong Answer) is writing a Superman reboot feature film for Warner Bros and DC Films. Attached to the Project is J.J. Abrams who will be producing under Bad Robot.
Along with Abrams, Hannah Minghella (Upcoming ‘Masters of the Universe’) will serve as a producer as well. No information regarding casting or if this will replace the Superman Henry Cavill has been portraying. It has been long-rumored though that J.J. Abrams was working on multiple DC projects one of which was a new Superman franchise.
While excitement is at an all time high for fans to see Henry Cavill again as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League this March. It’s hard not to wonder if his time as the last son of Krypton has come to an end. Of course it was back in September 2020 that The Cultured Nerd reported on Cavill signing a multi-picture deal to continue on as Superman, however speculation now is that may only be for cameo roles or possibly HBOMax content.
Abrams with his Bad Robot company signed a half-billion dollar deal September 2019 and has since been working on multiple DC related projects such as Justice League Dark and Constantine. It should come as to no surprise that Warner would want to use JJ and his team to re-establish a new Superman franchise as they move into a new era of the DCEU.
What are your thoughts on this development? Are you excited for a new franchise of Superman with Abrams involvement?
UPDATE
It appears more information may be leaking out. It is now being said that this franchise may be that of Calvin Ellis, Superman of Earth-23, and is a person of Color. It’s been spread around the industry that Michael B. Jordan was pushing for a Calvin Ellis Superman film in 2019/2020 for him to star in but nothing transpired. With the success J.J. Abrams/Bad Robot had with Lovecraft Country it makes sense they may have him involved with another project highlighting more of a diverse character base.
Great news! They can Keep Cavill as Superman, just give us a more authentic version!
