Spider-Man PS4 – The Greatest?

What’s up everyone! Its JT again, but you might know me as PNWJrock as that’s the name I use on social media, and I stream under PNWJRawk over on Twitch

Gonna be talking about Marvel’s Spider-Man game for PS4.

I absolutely love this Spider-Man game as it brings a Spider-Man story to life in all the glory you would want while playing the titular character. It shows what a really great Spider-Man movie could be. The action, the story, the combat system, everything in this is so fluid are so well done it’s amazing. My Uncle (John from Spoiler Country) went out and bought a PS4 JUST to play this game.

The costumes in this game are amazing. They hit on so many cool and nostalgia points with them that it’s hard not to just love it! You start up your in the normal suit they designed specifically for the game, but after the first fight with Fisk it’s torn up so you immediately have two, one battle damaged and a nice clean one with white lines on it. As you go through the game you get suits like the Tobey Maguire suit, the Spider-Man Homecoming suit, the 2 suits from Far From Home, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man Noir, and so many more! Have you ever wanted to swing through the streets in Spider-Man boxer and a Spidey mask? Well if you 100% the game you get to do just that.

When I was playing through the game I loved how they made the city, it’s so full of detail and life. It’s an open world with a few limitations as you are stuck in NYC, which makes sense. Secretly I would love it if they added more cities to explore with missions. There are so many details all around from the buildings, the park, the NPC’s, the leaves flying around. It’s truly majestic.

The first boss you fight, and fight pretty quick into the game, is the Kingpin himself, Wilson Fisk and holy shit what a powerhouse. The designers did a good job of making him a difficult character to beat, but used this battle to teach you the mechanics of the game. A lot of what you learn here really sets you up for other fights in this game.

After you take down Fisk you meet up with other bad guys, you fight gang members, Demons, Sable Agents, and a whole lot more. Check it, here’s a list of all the bad guys in this ground breaking game.

  • Kingpin
  • Mister Negative
  • Inner Demons
  • Norman Osborn
  • Silver Sable
  • Sable Agents
  • Tombstone
  • Black Cat
  • Rhino
  • Electro
  • Scorpion
  • Vulture
  • Taskmaster
  • Shocker
  • Screwball
  • Doctor Octopus

The game establishes that Otto Octavius is your boss and you are working with him to great some pretty amazing tech, essentially what will become his Doc Oc arms later in the game. It’s no doubt that they are establishing him to be the “good turned bad because of circumstances” character, which has been done before, but I appreciate the build up of the character so you really understand why he loses it at the end and turns.

Throughout the game you have a lot of side quests you can go on. Collecting birds, taking down hide outs, stopping crime, recovering stolen art, and more. If you want to swing around in your skivvies, then you gotta do all these missions. There are also several times where you play as MJ to do some sneaky covert shit. Since she has not real powers this is all about your sneaking skills to get past the guards. There’s one section where you are MJ and you tell Spider-Man who to take out and it’s so much fun!

Silver Sable plays a pretty big part in this game. You start out as enemies and she is a pain in the ASS to fight. Her Sable Agents are extremely hard at first and do not let up. One of the things this came does really well is just when you think you got it all down, it throws new mechanics at you to derail the tricks you had down. Like bad guys that snatch you out of the air if you try jump attacks and really mess your shit up.

When Doc Oc gets his arms and starts to turn he goes to the main jail and release the bad guys, that you already put away; Shocker, Rhino, Electro, Vulture, and Scorpion so they can cause a lot of mayhem on the streets to distract everyone while Doc Oc is trying to release his gas (lmao) called Devil’s Breath and then trying to kill all the people in New York. Sadly Aunt May (who is amazingly voiced by Nancy Linari, who also voiced Aunt May on the Spider-Man cartoon)

Once you defeat all the villains you then go fight Doc Oc on a roof top and crap in a that is that fight crazy! To fight him Spider-Man has to make a new suit that can withstand the hits from the arms from Doctor Octopus, without the suite death would be your next opponent. The battle is difficult, but like most games it’s all about finding the right strategy. You can’t win by brute force alone, you need to play into the mechanics of the fight to beat him.

Once everything is settled down you go to check on Aunt May to see how she is doing with the Devil’s Breath. This is the saddest part of the game and legit nearly brought tears. You have to decide to use the cure to save Aunt May or use it to create a cure for the city. Well, Aunt May dies so you know which option is picked. Though Peter REALLY wanted to save her.

The game ending is very satisfying. I’m not saying Aunt May dying is satisfying, but you have the ultimate hero making a sacrifice for the greater good and learning from it.

Once the game ends you notice that Miles has spider powers just like Peter and you’re left with a cliffhanger and hopefully the second one will be even better.
