Legendary Comics Announces New Original Graphic Novel The Heart Hunter Set for Release in Late 2020
One of the best parts about hosting a podcast, running this website, being in the comic world with my own books (Eynes Anthology), is the fact that we get some sweet information emailed to us. Like this, Legendary Comics sent us a press release (included below) about their new original graphic novel called “The Heart Hunter” by McKelle George and V. Gagnon!
Legendary Comics has put out some pretty cool stuff in the past, like Pacific Rim: Aftermath, Skull Island, A Town Called Dragon, Black Bag, and so much more! This graphic novel should be interesting, as some of my favorite stories out there are love stories. I know, I’m a sap, shut up. This one ties love with immortality and greed. Has this been done before? Absolutely. Does that mean it can’t be done again? Absolutely not.
However, the is a twist! According to the lore (that’s what I’m calling the press release, deal with it) Everyone is immortal and unable to die AND they have to wear their hearts on the outside of their bodies…literally! Oh, you’re also stuck on an island and can’t have kids, seems like the perfect world for Barney Stinson. Once you find your soul mate, it’s all lifted and you can mate until the cows come home. And also die, so there’s that draw back.
How will it play out? I have no idea! But in 2020 when the book releases we can all find out together! Read below to see what Legendary Comics has to say about this!
LOS ANGELES, September 12, 2019 – Legendary Comics announced new graphic novel THE HEART HUNTER, exploring immortality, love, and greed, from novelist McKelle George (Speak Easy, Speak Love) and artist V. Gagnon (Shout Out anthology). Set for release in late 2020, The Heart Hunter is set on the cursed island of Envecor where everyone is doomed to wear their heart outside their bodies and are immortal—unable to die, to change, to have children—until they find their soul mate. Once paired, the soul mates turn mortal, are free from the curse, and are able to leave the island. But all fairy tales have a dark side. Those who don’t want to lose their immortality employ “Heart Hunters” to seek out their predestined soul mates and kill them, ensuring everlasting life. Psyche, a Heart Hunter, is hired by the king to kill his soul mate. As she sets out on her quest, she embarks on her own journey of mending her broken heart and learning to trust again. “McKelle’s original idea and unique storytelling coupled with V. Gagnon’s stunning artwork is going to bring Psyche’s story to life in such a compelling way that fans are sure to enjoy,” said Nikita Kannekanti, Editor of Legendary Comics. “I am thrilled to be working with these two extraordinary creators and cannot wait to release the graphic novel next year.”
“Getting to work with Legendary Comics on The Heart Hunter is honestly a dream come true,” said George. “This story is close to my heart (pun very much intended), and working on the script alongside V. Gagnon, seeing the story come to life with their incredible art, has really transformed it into something better than I ever imagined. I’m so excited for the rest of the world to meet Psyche.”
