Ghost of Tsushima Story and Release Date Announced!
The Sucker Punch studio has announced that its open-world samurai action game Ghost of Tsushima will launch on June 26. Ghost has been in process for most of the last six years. It’s expected to be one of the last major exclusive to PlayStation 4 before the debut of the new Sony system!
Sucker Punch co-founder Chris Zimmerman stated during a demonstration at E3 2018 that he doesn’t see Ghost as a video game. Instead, he views it as “an attempt to make a time machine.” The company has done its best to represent feudal Japan during the Kamakura period. That decision has helped make the game seem more realistic.
The Story Behind Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima is set in 1274 on Tsushima Island following the first Mongol invasion of Japan. The invasion was basically a massacre. The way the Mongols fought, in every way, was completely alien to the samurai of the time. The Mongols employed cavalry tactics, shield phalanxes, gunpowder charges thrown by catapults and poisoned arrows. All while the samurai who opposed them were outnumbered and accustomed to a more formal and focused combat style.
The Mongols simply outperformed the small groups of Japanese defenders on their way. At the beginning of Ghost, Tsushima Island is in ruins. You play as Jin Sakai, one of the last surviving samurai whose entire way of life has been destroyed. The Mongols have killed almost all of their peers, mentors, and heroes. Jin has just received a series of bloody lessons about how his previous training doesn’t really work in this situation.
Ghost is the story of how Jin is forced to reinvent himself to survive and fight the Mongols. He must also learn to trust allies and tactics he would have previously seen beneath him. While Jin is a lethal swordsman, you can also use other combat tactics, such as stealth and assassination, while exploring a war-torn Japanese camp and fighting the Mongols.
The Retails Values
Ghost of Tsushima will be shipped in three separate physical editions. The Special Edition ($69.99) receive several digital extras, including an art book and a Director’s Commentary presentation.
All that plus as an exclusive steel case. The Collector’s Edition ($169.99) also comes with a fabric map, a war banner, a physical art book, a Japanese furoshiki and a heavy polyresin replica of one of the samurai masks Jin wears in the game.
What is Sucker Punch?
Ghost is the first release of Sucker Punch in six years, after the spin-off Infamous: First Light. The company was founded in 1997 by a team of former Microsoft employees. The first game to be released by Sucker Punch was Rocket: Robot on Wheels 1999 for the Nintendo 64. They eventually reached an agreement with Sony to create the Sly Cooper series for PlayStation 2.
In 2009, Sucker Punch changed gears and created the dark superhero game Infamous for PlayStation 3, which quickly became a platinum hit. Sucker Punch would then influence the development of the PlayStation 4 during the production of Infamous: Second Son, a release title for the system set in a slightly fictional version of the Seattle area.
