Food for Thought: Why didn’t Obi-Wan Warn the Jedi?

This is Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. I regret to report that both our Jedi Order and the Republic have fallen, with the dark shadow of the Empire rising to take their place. This message is a warning and a reminder for any surviving Jedi: trust in the Force. Do not return to the Temple. That time has passed, and our future is uncertain. Avoid Coruscant. Avoid detection. Be secret… but be strong. We will each be challenged: our trust, our faith, our friendships. But we must persevere and, in time, I believe a new hope will emerge. May the Force be with you always.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s warning

This was Obi-Wan’s final message through the Jedi Temple after the Jedi Purge. Notice how it has no reference to Anakin going to the dark side. Now many of you may believe that Obi-Wan just didn’t know yet. He finds out shortly after, so why not rerecord the message. This is where I get concerned. If he knew who the greatest threat was to the galaxy, why not warn the survivors? But I do have some theories.

My Theories

  • Obi-Wan was so shocked by what he saw that he simply didn’t think about it
  • Obi-Wan assumed he could find Anakin and deal with him himself long before any Jedi would run into him

Let us know your theories in the comments below!

Excellent question! But it is pretty simple. His message was prior to facing Darth Vader. By the time he leaves Mustafar he believes that he had Defeated Vader and he died on that planet. By the time he is made aware that Vader is still alive.. Maybe he didn’t have the resources to place a new distress call and or warning
