Deeper Memeing: Woman Yelling At A Cat

Hello Spoiler Country, and welcome to “In Search of Deeper Memeing” where we look at memes. I personally love me some memes, them and cat pics are realistically the only things that keep me on Facebook. For this installment, we are looking at the “Woman Yelling At A Cat” meme.

BACKGROUND

Waaaaay way back in 2011, the first half of the meme came to be via an episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (Yes, unfortunately she was not actually yelling at the cat, never meet your heroes/look into good things people…). The screenshot was posted online the following day for a website’s recap of the latest episode.

Jump nearly seven years later, and in between the releases of “DC/Marvel Similar Characters Vol 2” and “Ace Comic Con 2018 Seattle Day One! Dan Parent! Lauren Moran!(So June 19, 2018 for those not well versed in Spoiler Country history) and the cat at the table picture was posted with the original caption “he no like vegetables”.

Someone in the meme illuminati saw these two images and the potential they could have together so they enlisted the meme Nick Fury (Nick Furmeme? Nick Furinati?) to recruit these two and create the meme that has exploded on social media.

BREAKING IT DOWN

There is a conversation going on between the girl and the cat (who hasn’t been there though? Blizzard The Wizard and I chat on the daily). The girl is trying to make a point in anger with the cat responding with an answer the girl was not looking for. The girl can also resemble people angry at an event/thing, with the cat representing the thing that the humans are upset by (and just like the cat, the thing isn’t really doing anything) The cat is obviously the star of the meme (Yet again, when isn’t the cat the star?) So the punchline/funny moment is all the cat.

LONGEVITY

Cats on the internet can live almost as long as real-life cats can (which is a while). This one has sparked people’s imagination and taking the scene to crazy places. I hope this template hangs on for a while, it’s a fun one.

Is there a meme out there that you would want to see covered? Tweet it to @spoiler_country with the hashtag #deepermemeing and we will give it a look!
