DC’S BLUE BEETLE FINDS A DIRECTOR
WB/DC has tapped Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings, La Granja, Dinner Party) to direct their upcoming Blue Beetle movie. This information is coming via The Wrap.
The screenplay for Blue Beetle is being written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (Miss Bala). As of now no information on casting has been released but the character of Blue Beetle has been played by a number of characters in the comics but as of late he is most notably a Mexican-American teenager named Jaime Reyes.
Angel Manuel Soto had this to say
“It is an honor to direct Blue Beetle, the first Latino superhero film for DC,” said Soto in a statement to TheWrap. “I want to sincerely thank everyone at Warner Bros. and DC for trusting me to bring Jaime Reyes to life. I can’t wait to make history together.”
The film is aiming to start production in Fall of 2021.
Jaime Reyes was the third character within DC comics to take on the mantle of Blue Beetle, however he is vastly different than that of his predecessors. Prior to 2006 the origin of the Blue Beetle was not of alien origin, that mythos began with Jaime Reyes as a scarab bonded with him which creates a suit of alien armor he uses in many ways.
