Benioff & Weiss Exit Star Wars

To the surprise of many, David Benioff & D.B. Weiss have parted ways with Lucasfilm to shift their focus on other projects. With the end of the Skywalker saga upon us. The pair was set to start off a new trilogy of Star Wars films in 2022.

In a statement to Deadline Benioff and Weiss had this to say.

“We love Star Wars. When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything.”

Kathy Kennedy, Head of Lucasfilm, had this to say

“David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers,. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”

David & D.B.’s Star Wars trilogy was the next film in line within the universe. At this point it is anyone’s guess on where things will move at this time. But, we still have many projects in development to look forward to. There is the Kevin Feige project, the Rian Johnson trilogy, as well as a few television shows on the horizon.

This is only a minor setback in what looks to be an exciting future for the franchise.
